Theme Park Shooting

May 27, 2009

We took the kids to Six Flags in New Jersey last weekend. Of course I took my camera. There really weren’t as many great shooting opportunities as I’d hoped, but there were some and I got some fairly satisfying images. A few that I’ve had in my head will have to stay there a while longer. Some rides have been torn down so the settings simply don’t exist there anymore. (Someday I’ll write a lot more extensively about photographic wish lists.)

Since we bought season passes for the whole family, I’ll be going back there — and to Six Flags in DC — several more times. We need to get our money’s worth from the passes and I want to look for more shooting opportunities. One of the things I plan to experiment with is longer shutter speeds and deliberate motion. I’ll have to bring my tripod for that. I’d also like to bring a TtV rig and do some quirky environmental type stuff.
